When Good Times Turn Bad

I'm currently reading Michael Hill Jewellers Biography "Toughen Up".  If you haven't read it yet it's about what he has learnt about surviving the tough times.  It's an interesting read and here's his ingredients of his philosophy that I thought I would share with you.
  • Don't panic
  • Hard times are good for you
  • Never be afraid of change
  • Hunt the right people and help them become better
  • Get down to the coalface
  • Embrace mistakes
  • Work is the wrong word
  • Keep an eye on the underdog
  • Visualise
  • Business and sentiment don't mix
  • Start at the bottom
  • Present yourself perfectly
  • Keep your balance
  • Give back and you shall receive
  • Find your point of difference
  • Money is just a yardstick                                                     (Michael Hill - Toughen Up 2009)
You'll have to grab a copy of his book as he explains each concept in detail but these are points I agree with totally but I am going to add "go back to the basics and keep it simple".

Go over these points for your business - have a brainstorming session with your staff.
What are we doing well?
What can we do better?
Where are we heading?

Follow this up with a "Pest" and a "Swot" analysis and create a plan to move forward.

Have a great week.
Arlene
